Healthy Lakewood Foundation Grant Announcement

September 14, 2022 • Grants Update

Healthy Lakewood Foundation LCSC

LCSC has received a Community Grant in the amount of $39,000 from the Healthy Lakewood Foundation to support the return of our Summer Lunch and Enrichment Program beginning in June 2023. This popular free program for children enrolled in Lakewood schools in grades K-5 who qualify for free and reduced-cost meals has been on hold since summer 2020 due to COVID-19. We are thrilled to be bringing it back thanks to the generous support of the Healthy Lakewood Foundation (HLF).

The program has the goal of providing healthy lunches and activities for kids who might otherwise not have the opportunity for important socialization during the school’s summer break. Each summer eighty kids, under the supervision of five qualified staff, enjoy healthy and culturally appropriate lunches and an exciting menu of activities and field trips in and around Lakewood that include swimming lessons, library time, bowling at Mahall’s, art and music experiences at Beck Center for Performing Arts and outdoor activities at the Lake Erie Science and Nature Center and the Cleveland Metroparks Rocky River Nature Center. This signature free program more than tripled in registration between its launch in 2014 and our last program year in 2019. We anticipate seeing many returning participants in 2023, their younger siblings, and new registrants as well.
