Due to COVID-19 and our concern for the health and wellbeing of all our clients, LCSC moved to 100% home delivery in September 2020. Our delivery team is on the road Monday through Friday delivering fresh produce, eggs, cheese, protein, and shelf-stable products to over 500 households in Lakewood, Rocky River, and Westlake. The team is making deliveries twice a month to every registered household.
In addition to the food we purchase at the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, we are fortunate to have the support of many local retailers who donate to LCSC every week. They include Blackbird Baking Company, Breadsmith, Heinen’s, Marc’s and Giant Eagle. Volunteers for the Hunger Network’s Food Rescue bring donated produce from Giant Eagle and baked goods from Leavened to add to our deliveries.
LCSC has been making once-a-month deliveries to seniors living in subsidized senior apartment buildings for 11 years. During the pandemic we have not been able to deliver to each senior’s apartment, but we have continued this important program by drop offs in the buildings’ lobbies or common areas. Each monthly delivery includes fresh fruit, eggs, and cheese. Every effort is made to include low-sodium and low-sugar products. Currently, deliveries are made to 500 residents in the Westerly Apartments, the South Westerly, Fedor Manor and Lake Shore Towers in Lakewood and to Pinzone Towers in Rocky River.
Just as soon as it is safe to return to door-to-door deliveries, we will again be supported by Lakewood High School students who are members of H2O (Help to Others), the city’s service program for youth, and by students from St. Edward High School. Senior residents love interacting with our community’s high school students!
To sign up for delivery, please contact your building’s service coordinator or building manager.
The Lakewood Community Meals program is made possible by a network of volunteers at local churches and at St. Edward High School. Community meals have continued without interruption throughout the pandemic – mostly a grab-and-go meal to keep everyone healthy and distanced. For a complete list of the meal locations and hours of service, please click here. As soon as it is safe, hot meal service will be resumed.
If you are interested in volunteering at a community meal, please contact the individual host sites and ask for the Community Meal Coordinator.
We are pleased to bring the mobile pantry back in June, 2021! In partnership with St. Edward High School, LCSC will again host this popular free produce distribution at the St. Edward High School campus at 13500 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood. You can drive up or walk up to receive abundant fresh seasonal produce provided by the Greater Cleveland Food Bank. This year’s distribution will be held from 3:30pm – 5:00pm on the third Wednesday of every month. Thanks to LCSC volunteers, St. Ed’s student volunteers and community groups for helping us bring this event back!
2022 dates will be available soon – check back!
LCSC offers an opportunity for individuals and groups to grow their own produce at our 5,000 square foot garden located at Madison Park. With support from the City of Lakewood, we opened this community space in 2011 and it is going strong 10 years later. Participants in the garden take as much produce as they want for their own families and donate the rest back to LCSC so we can distribute it to our clients. We are supported every year by a group of dedicated volunteers from St. Edward High School who help us clean up and prepare for a new growing season.
