About the Program

Kids need healthy food and healthy activities during the summer months. LCSC offers this free program to Lakewood school students entering grades K-5 who qualify for free or reduced-price meals during the school year. Thanks to the generous support from Healthy Lakewood Foundation, the program will return for two sessions this summer.

Kids have opportunities to participate in bowling at Mahall’s 20 Lanes, swim lessons at Madison Pool, and library time at the Lakewood Public Library Madison Branch. Each session offers a field trip to either the Lake Erie Nature & Science Center in Bay Village or to the Cleveland Metroparks Rocky River Nature Center, and each session will include an art experience field trip to the Pivot Center for Art, Dance and Expression on W 25th Street in Tremont. There is plenty of time to play at Madison Park and time to enjoy crafts and games on rainy days.

Beyond the activities, delicious lunches prepared by Lakewood’s own Karen King Catering are provided. The menus include fresh fruit and fresh veggies every day. Who knew eating healthy could be so yummy?

The program is run by five LCSC summer staff members; additional adult chaperones participate in the field trips. Field trip transportation is provided by Willo Transportation whose drivers are certified by the Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Department of Transportation.

Flyers with instructions to register will be sent to all Lakewood elementary schools in April 2024. Information will also be included in emails from the Lakewood Board of Education.

This is a first come first served program and the 70 slots fill quickly. Make sure to get your child(ren) registered online as early as possible!

We are excited to welcome your kids!
